 Setting Dial-up Networking In Windows 9x.
Solution

To Setup Dial-up Networking In Windows 9x:

  1. Double-click My Computer on the Desktop. 
    The My Computer window is displayed.
  2. Double-click Dial-up Networking. 
    The Dial-up Networking window is displayed.
    NOTE: If the Dial-up Networking icon is not present, it means the dial-up networking component has
    not been installed at the time of the Windows installation. Please refer the Windows manual for information on installing dial-up networking.
  3. Double-click Make New Connection. 
    The Make New Connection dialog is displayed.
  4. Type a name for the dial-up connection that is easy to identify. For example, ISP-Name.
  5. The modem you have installed should appear in the Modem list.
    NOTE: If you have more than one modem, select the modem you would like to use with this dial-up connection.
  6. Click Next. 
    The Make New Connection dialog is displayed.
  7. Type the Area code and Phone number of your ISP.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish.  
    The Dial-up Networking window is displayed again with an icon along with the name of the connection you have set up.
  10. Right-click the newly created icon.
  11. Click Properties. 
    The ISP-Name dialog is displayed with four tabs: General, Server Types, Scripting, and Multilink.
    The General tab is selected by default.
  12. Click the General tab.
     o Type in the Area Code of your ISP.
     o Type in the telephone number of your ISP.
     o Select the country in which your ISP is located from the Country dropdown list.
       By default, the Use Area Code & Dialing Rules check box is selected.
    NOTE: Clear Use Area Code & Dialing Rules if the call to your ISP is a local call - or - Leave Use Area Code & Dialing Rules selected if the call to your ISP is not a local call.
     o In the Connect Using list, click the modem you want to use for connecting to the Internet.
        NOTE: Please refer your Windows manual for more information about configuring your modem.
  13. Click the Server Types tab.
    By default, PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server and Windows 98 is displayed in the Type of Dialup server list.
    o In the Advanced section, select the Log on to network and Enable software compression check boxes.
    o In the Allowed network protocols section select the TCP/IP check box.
  14. Click TCP/IP Settings. 
    The TCP/IP Settings dialog is displayed. 
     o Click Server Assigned IP Address.
     o Click Server assigned name server address.
     o Select the Use IP Header Compression check box.
     o Select the Use Default Gateway on Remote Network check box.
     o Click OK to close the TCP/IP Settings dialog box.
  15. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.
